City Code Violations
Contracting Without a License
If a person not licensed with the Registrar of Contractors engages in contracting as defined by the law, that person could be charged with Contracting Without a License. In Arizona, Contracting Without a License is a class one (1) misdemeanor and a person could be liable for all monies paid by the “victim” for the work, even if it was performed well.
Dog at Large – A.R.S. §11-1012
Owners could be held on criminal charges of Dog at Large if:
- The dog is female and is at large during her breeding or mating season,
- The dog is vicious, or
- The dog is at a public park or public school property unless the dog is restrained by a leash, enclosed in a car, cage or similar enclosure.
Dog Licensing A.R.S. §11-1012(B)
Dogs over the age of three months must be licensed and vaccinated for rabies. An owner can be liable for non-compliance with this provision.
Dog Biting
Arizona laws impose zero tolerance liability on the part of an owner whose dog bites another person. That person can be found guilty of criminal charges and will also have to pay for any losses incurred by the person bitten. There are defenses to a dog bite charge, including provocation by the animal. If a dog bites a person and is either known by the owner to have a propensity to attack , cause injury or otherwise endanger the safety of human beings or has been found to be vicious, the owner could be charged with a class six (6) felony.
Prostitution
Prostitution is defined as engaging in or agreeing or offering to engage in sexual conduct under a fee agreement with a person for money or something else valuable. In Arizona, both the person offering the sexual conduct as well as the person receiving it can be found guilty of prostitution. Prostitution is a class one (1) misdemeanor.
Prostitution is also a city code violation in the City of Phoenix. If cited under this code, a first time-offender must receive fifteen (15) days in jail. |
