Man sentenced to life for shooting ex-girlfriend

“A Tempe man found guilty of fatally shooting his former girlfriend was sentenced to life in prison without possibility for parole Wednesday.

The sentence came a month after the conviction, according to the Tempe Police Department.

Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Teresa Sanders issued the sentence. Ivan Hernandez-Olvera, 28, shot and killed 22-year-old Felicia Renee Alarcon in Chandler on Nov. 17, 2007, leaving her body in the road near Price Road and Warner Avenue.

Investigators suspected the two were arguing and had just stepped out of a car when the shooting occurred.A man on a bicycle witnessed the shooting.

Hernandez-Olvera fled the scene and was apparently headed to Mexico when by police and border patrol agents captured him in Nogales,” (Channing Turner)
